How to use it

  • FacesWhen you add a photo, faces are found and blurred right away. If one was missed, draw a box over it.
  • Plates and other areasDrag on the photo to draw a box. Grab a box to move it, or drag a corner to resize it.
  • DeletingClick a box and press “Delete selected”, or press Delete on your keyboard.
  • Which effect?Blur looks natural, pixelate is more obvious, and a black box leaves no trace. For sensitive documents a black box is safest.

Common questions

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. Finding faces and blurring happen in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.

Can the blur be undone?

No. Pixanon shrinks the hidden area right down and scales it back up, so the detail is really gone; it doesn’t just lay a see-through layer on top. For the most certain result, choose the black box.

Does it find every face?

It finds most faces seen from the front or side. Very small, turned-away or shadowed faces can be missed, so look over the photo before sharing and mark anything left by hand.

Does it find license plates automatically?

No, you mark plates yourself. Drawing a box takes a few seconds and avoids hiding the wrong area.

What technology does it use?

Faces are found with Google’s open-source MediaPipe face detector (Apache 2.0 license). The model file loads once from Pixanon’s own server on first use.
